Baseball's All-Star Week Menu Tweaks All-American Classics

With the M.L.B. All-Star Game returning to New York next month, the food options take inspiration from the city's five boroughs.

Major League Baseball's All-Star Game festivities come to New York's Citi Field July 12 to 16, and the stadium known for its food will have some new offerings for fans.

Aramark, the stadium's food and beverage partner, previewed its menu this week from its executive chef at Citi Field, Robert Flowers. During the course of the four-day event, Flowers predicted the stadium would serve 37,000 hot dogs, 12,5000 burgers, 900 pounds of filet mignon, 13,7000 soft pretzels, and 7,000 pounds of pastrami.

“With the five boroughs in our backyard as inspiration, we’re working with our talented chef partners on a menu that brings the best of our city to life for visiting fans across the country,” Flowers said.

Flowers created two menus for suite ticket holders. The “All-Star Package” will include grilled baby lamb chops, grilled New York strip steaks, and a dessert bar. The “Home Run Package” will feature Nathan’s beef frankfurters, baked lobster macaroni and cheese, and salted caramel brownies.

Outside of the suites, Flowers will offer a new menu item, the "All-Star Meatball Hero." The sub is a blend of ground beef, pork, and veal simmered in a sweet red sauce; meatballs with buffalo mozzarella; and fried basil on a sesame-seed roll.

Along with Aramark, Union Square Events, Myriad Restaurant Group, Pat LaFrieda Meats, and Esca will contribute to the  menus. All-Star week kicks off July 12 with the T-Mobile All-Star FanFest at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Sports-themed activities at the center will include batting-simulator games and meet and greets with baseball pros. On July 13, the All-Star 5K & Fun Run takes place in Brooklyn's Prospect Park with proceeds benefiting Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Later that night, Mariah Carey will perform with the New York Philharmonic at a Sandy benefit concert on the Great Lawn in Central Park.

The Chevrolet Home Run Derby is July 15 at Citi Field, followed by the midsummer classic itself, the 84th annual All-Star Game July 16.

The new All-Star Meatball Hero was created by Aramark's executive chef at Citi Field, Robert Flowers. The sub sandwich will be offered at Citi Field's Promenade Club, the Hyundai Club, the Caesars Club, and outdoor and indoor seating areas.
