Inside HBO's Clever 'Veep' Premiere Party

HBO celebrated the third season of its hit television comedy Veep with a splashy, candy-filled fete.

On March 24, HBO hosted a premiere party for the third season of Veep at Paramount Studios. The event had a splashy design from Billy Butchkavitz, replete with paisley upon paisley designs. "The paisley and bird fabrics were used to create my festive version of a vice presidential residence," Butchkavitz said. "As everyone knows, I am not afraid of color or pattern."

The bash also featured several references to one of the new plot lines. In the third season—beware of spoiler alerts—Julia Louis-Dreyfus's character has written a book called Some New Beginnings. "Several book-signing events are featured on the show, and I wanted to make the book part of the premiere party," Butchkavitz said. To do so, planners set up a mock book signing on site and added other literary-theme tropes—including a rather ingenious one at the candy bar. Take a peek inside the Los Angeles party; the show's season premiere is April 6.

In the new season, Julia Louis-Dreyfus's character, Selina Meyer, has written a book. To highlight the plot, a bookshelf with faux copies of her book stood behind a colorful candy bar.

After a screening of the show's third-season premiere, guests headed to an alfresco party at Paramount Studios. The path was lit with brightly colored lights in paisley patterns. The event took place in a 66-foot round tent that was placed over a fountain outside the Paramount Theater.

The paisley pattern carried over into linens that covered tables in the seating area, where Bruce's Gourmet Catering provided snacks. The event's gilded chairs and bright red flowers had a sense of presidential pomp that mirrored the premise of the show. Gold was the accent color and appeared in everything from pedestals and banquettes to centerpiece vessels and even the vests and ties on waitstaff.
