Orange County Convention Center

Planners looking to make their events more “green” can take advantage of a new food diversion program offered by the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. The facility diverts back-of-house food waste (food scraps from plates or perishable food that cannot be donated) into bins that are collected by Organic Matters, a company that processes it into livestock feed.

The Panda Banner Stand from Go Green Displays is a retractable banner stand fabricated with 90 percent plantation-grown bamboo. The easy-to-use retraction system rolls the banner into the base, which can then be packed up in the included padded carrying bag. The $600 price includes printing on cotton fabric with low V.O.C. inks.

At the Chicago music festival in August, event-goers were encouraged to reuse water bottles. At CamelBak Filling Stations, guests could refill their bottles with free filtered water, which came in handy on the 90-plus-degree days. The event also had composting bins on the grounds, and offered perks for guests who helped pick up trash.

Eco-Friendly Water Stations

TEDActive guests scooped up logo water bottles upon their arrival (or any time throughout the conference) that served as giveaways, as well as a way to stay hydrated without the use of disposable plastic bottles. Hydration stations let guests fill up easily and as often as they liked.
