
In a smart move that avoided the complications that come with laying carpet over stairs—especially on a snowy night in New York—the event's producers projected a strip of red light over the library's front steps, effectively creating a virtual red carpet that led to the entrance. Hundreds of LED candles sat on either side of the illuminated pathway.

Burlesque dancers from Creole Sweet Tease took turns entertaining the crowd. The party also included performances from soul pop group Jessica Hernandez and the Deltas and rapper Cello Kid, winner of the first XO Cafe Music Project contest.

Organizers knew many attendees had come to the party after spending all day at the Orlando Calling music festival. So they set up two GoCharge phone charging stations from Hercules Networks just inside the entrance. Guests could give their phones to a staff person who would monitor the charging, similar to a coat check.
