1. Tom Ham's Lighthouse
1. Tom Ham's Lighthouse

One of Harbor Island's architectural landmarks reopened its doors in May. The new Tom Ham's Lighthouse features a fresh interior, new menus, and a bayfront bar that serves 32 beers on tap as well as craft cocktails. Tom Ham's Lighthouse has four meeting rooms that accommodate groups of as many as 250 guests, including a 2,100-square-foot space with a view of the downtown skyline.

2. Bang Bang
2. Bang Bang

Famous for its Ryan Gosling-theme bathroom, Bang Bang opened in July. Inside the 7,000-square-foot venue, patrons eat, drink, and dance under a ceiling of large paper lanterns. The nightclub has three rooms available for private parties: a sushi room that seats 25, a theater room with a dance floor and stage that hosts 250 guests, and a dining room for 200.

3. Lakehouse Hotel and Resort
3. Lakehouse Hotel and Resort

Lakehouse Hotel & Resort reopened in June after a property-wide renovation. The 250-acre resort offers guest suites and amenities such as fire pits and sand volleyball. Lakehouse has more than 18,000 square feet of meeting and event space in four lakefront cottages, each fitted with a view of St. Mark golf course and Lake San Marcos.

4. Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa
4. Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa

Estancia La Jolla underwent a $4.8 million renovation this spring. Now with a classic Californian look, the 10-acre hotel and spa has 31,374 square feet of meeting space, which includes a theater, conference rooms, two ballrooms, and five outdoor spaces. The hotel also opened Trinitas Cellars wine bar, which has a 510-square-foot private dining room.

5. Pechanga Resort & Casino
5. Pechanga Resort & Casino

Extensive renovations to the Pechanga Resort & Casino are slated to finish in December. The 500-acre resort boasts a championship golf course, a 1,200-seat theater, and a 200,000-square-foot casino. Pechanga also has more than 52,000 square feet of meeting and function space, as well as a 120-seat teleconferencing center.

6. Morada
6. Morada

Morada opened in July at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe. The 2,230-square-foot restaurant has a main dining room and patio, which seat 96 guests combined, while a lounge seats 38. Guests may also choose to reserve the Vintage Room, which seats 18 and features antique decor, or the Library, a private room that seats 36 and includes a fireplace.

7. Sublime Tavern
7. Sublime Tavern

A collaboration between entrepreneur James Limjoco and chef Josh Richardi, Sublime Tavern opened in July. The 7,000-square-foot restaurant in Del Mar seats 245 and has rustic wooden decor. The bar is built from Black Bourbon beer casks and features 55 beers on tap, three of which are crafted for Sublime Tavern.

8. Frauds and Swindlers and Two Fingers
8. Frauds and Swindlers and Two Fingers

Bar industry veterans Aidan Demarest and Dave Whitton opened their first Gaslamp district spot, Frauds and Swindlers and Two Fingers, in August. Brick walls, bare vintage lamps, and dark wood tones give the spirits bar a seductive aesthetic. The 4,000-square-foot venue seats 150 and is split into two bars: Frauds and Swindlers serves cocktails while Two Fingers, located upstairs, features live music and specializes in rare spirits served neat. The venue is available for buyout and also offers catering options.

9. San Diego Brew Project
9. San Diego Brew Project

A new addition to San Diego's craft beer scene, San Diego Brew Project is nestled in the 57 Degrees wine bar in Mission Hills. The bar serves 31 local taps including popular beers such as Ballast Point and Stone. The 10,000-square-foot venue seats 250 for dinner. The space also has a 700-square-foot patio and is available for buyouts.

10. The Green Dragon Tavern & Museum

The 22,000-square-foot replica of Boston's historic Green Dragon Tavern is slated to open in November. The Colonial-style establishment will feature a museum, a gift shop, an Old World tavern, and a separate 115-seat restaurant. The tavern will have a 3,417-square-foot meeting space that can be divided into three rooms.

A shoot at a modern oceanside venue featured escort cards displayed under a deer head sculpture growing out of a wall of roses. “Escort cards are the perfect place for some playfulness,' writes Dowling Coppola. 'We cut out the shape of antlers into a few of our escort cards—an homage to the enormous installation of rose petals surrounding our faux deer head—which was the centerpiece to our escort card display. A simple backdrop can elevate your design to an entirely different level of art.”
