2. Clio Awards

#2 Advertising Industry Event
Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman hosted the 2016 Clio Awards at the American Museum of Natural History. The event honored Mario Testino, Baz Luhrmann, and Hugh Evans, among others. This year marks the 58th anniversary of the awards presentation. Next: September 27, 2017

4. National Book Awards

#4 Media Event
Last year’s National Book Awards, hosted by Larry Wilmore, honored authors including Colson Whitehead, Ibrahim X. Kendi, and Nate Powell. This year marks the 68th annual iteration of the prestigious awards from the National Book Foundation, which recognizes the best U.S. literature. Next: November 17, 2017

This was the first year Upfront Summit took place at a custom-built, indoor-outdoor venue.

For the main stage, pieces of vinyl-wrapped foam hung from the ceiling and were mounted to the flat vinyl backdrop to give it a three-dimensional effect.

Content was delivered on nine screens rather than a single screen in the past. The Creative Group and N&N Films used the screens, the largest being 30-foot by 20-foot, to create dynamic content that gave a more personal look into the lives of each of the nominees and winners. "The idea of a mosaic became an important starting point for the night," said Beckman. "It truly reflected New York fashion and all its layers."

3. Coterie

#3 Fashion Industry Event (new to the list)
Brands and buyers both large and small connect at Coterie, a fashion trade show focusing on apparel, accessories, and footwear. The show, now in its 32nd year, draws American and international retailers who come to see the latest lines from established designers as well as up-and-comers. Held at the Jacob K. Javits Center, the event has traditionally taken place twice annually, but this year, host organization UBM has added a third show, Pre-Coterie, in June. Next: February 26-28, 2018
