Far less daunting than the permanent variety, temporary tattoos are bright, colorful, and wash off in the shower. Here's a look at some recent happenings that have employed the fun, artsy form of entertainment—and left attendees decorated with everything from corporate logos to abstract designs.

In Chicago, Street Food Artistry is a summertime event that showcases local street food. At the Zhou B. Art Center in August, guests grabbed bites at the "Food Truck Pavilion," listened to live music, and got temporary tattoos from NLI Studios.

During Lollapalooza in August, BMF Media Group hosted events, brand activations, and gifting suites at the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago. In the Clearasil "Rock Your Skin" lounge, V.I.P. festival-goers and celebrities such as singer Michelle Williams (pictured) got airbrush tattoos of bright, abstract patterns. The artists also applied jewels and glitter to the body art.

In February, the Franciscan Hospital for Children’s Friends Ball in Boston had a "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" theme. During the cocktail reception, Gin C. Productions provided temporary tattoos in the shapes of skulls, lightning, and the Aerosmith logo. During dessert, the band's bassist, Tom Hamilton, helped lead the live auction.

As part of the Fashion's Night Out festivities last September, Paul Frank took over a space on Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles. Guests got henna and glitter tattoos, scooped up candy at the bar, and listened to beats from DJ Taryn Manning.

In May, the Alliance Francaise de Chicago hosted its biennial gala at the Four Seasons Hotel. Inspired by Yves Saint Laurent's Moroccan hideaway, the Jardin Majorelle, the event employed elements of Moroccan street life. During cocktail hour, guests perused silent-auction items displayed in an ornate bazaar while henna artists decorated guests with temporary tattoos.

In July, Thrillist hosted the two-day Thrillist Hotel activation in Chicago. Geared toward entertaining clients, sweepstakes winners, and other V.I.P. types, the event included a Saturday afternoon "Beachside Bash." At the beach party, Body Art by Allison provided airbrush tattoos of symbols including margarita glasses, butterflies, and Thrillist's logo.
