The 10th annual fund-raising event, presented by and benefiting the Human Rescue Alliance (formerly known as the Washington Humane Society), took place April 23 at the Grand Hyatt Washington, and raised about $400,000. Some 1,000 people attended the runway show, which had models escorted by fashionably dressed dogs. New this year, Rent the Runway provided all the women's clothing and provided fittings for event participants, while CityCenterDC sponsored the men's clothing. Audi was among the major sponsors at the event, which had decor from Design Foundry. Next: April 8, 2017

#4 Fashion & Beauty Event
The suburban Maryland shopping center Bethesda Row revamped its Front Row fashion event in 2016. The eighth annual gathering in June was shortened to one day from three, but the fashion show remained the centerpiece of the event. Instead of a Friday-night event, it became a Sunday brunch for 200 guests. Several local media personalities attended the event, including Fox 5 DC’s Laura Evans, who served as emcee. For the first time, the show benefited the DC Newswomen charity, which supports breast-cancer research and awareness. Next: Spring 2017
