3 Washington Vendors With Charitable Tie-Ins

Looking to add a feel-good factor to an event without incorporating a full-blown fund-raising component? Here are three vendors that support charities while serving an event's purpose.

1. Fresh Start Catering offers food prepared by graduates of DC Central Kitchen's 12-week culinary job training program. The program prepares unemployed, underemployed, previously incarcerated, and homeless adults for careers in the foodservice industry. Fresh Start uses local and sustainable ingredients whenever possible and specializes in drop-off catering for in-office breakfasts and lunches.

2. Based in Germantown, Maryland, BlackRock Center for the Arts provides arts education as well as a performances from local, national, and international artists. The organization rents its entire space for events, including the lobby, 209-seat main stage theater, studio theater, and 1,500 square-foot art gallery. All proceeds benefit the organization and its arts education programs.

3. Fredrick, Maryland-based Moxie Bakery & Cafe is located in the Bernard W. Brown Community Center and provides job training and support to young people in Frederick who have aged out of foster care or who live in local public housing. It offers breakfast pastries for morning meetings, baked goods like cookies and fruit tarts, custom cakes, and sandwiches.
