While Hollywood heavies are dueling over who will win this Sunday's Academy Awards, there's another contest heating up: Who's giving out the best gift bag? The obvious winner is probably the bag of booty going to the ceremony's presenters, who get $20,000 worth of items, including a vegetable soy candle, Tag Heuer sunglasses, $100 worth of Ming-Cha teas, a $300 Birkenstocks gift certificate and T-shirts from Los Angeles-based Loveletters Loungewear. (The bag had Katie Couric going gaga on the Today show on Monday.)
But what about Manhattan's two big events (besides the Academy's traditional New York party at Le Cirque)?Celebrity wrangling firm Flying Television Productions is putting together the goodie bag for Entertainment Weekly's annual soiree at Elaine's. Founder Lori Levine told us the sack will include about $1,000 of loot, including the Trident Teeth Whitening System, Loews movie passes, SkinClinic Day Spa gift certificates, an American Movie Classics movie book and specially designed cookies from Eleni's Cookies--one for each of the Best Picture nominees--plus items from Benetton, Coach, Armani Exchange, Textureline, Laura Mercier, Calvin Klein and Universal Music. (The celebs also get limousine service to the party in a new CTS Cadillac.)
Meanwhile, The New York Times reported that guests at the Mercedes-Benz-sponsored Oscar party at the TriBeCa Grand will get a bag of goodies from New York designers and shops, including items from Alex & Ani, Bumble & Bumble, Cosi and Equinox gyms.
