This Week: Music Events Here, Oscars Take L.A.

Tonight French Laundry and Per Se chef Thomas Keller is honored by Careers Through Culinary Arts Program at its annual benefit at Pier Sixty. Thursday is a big day, and includes the preview of the JCPenney temporary store in Times Square, which will feature a benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS; the store will be open for three weeks, with a slew of events produced by EventQuest. Thursday is also the day of the Billboard Music and Money Symposium, which comes to the St. Regis Hotel. Downtown, Absolut vodka holds a press conference to announce its collaboration with Lenny Kravitz at Industria Superstudio and a performance later in the day at Skylight. Another event on Thursday is the Box NYC benefit at the Hammerstein Ballroom, which features boxing matches, a fashion show, and poker tournaments, as well as catering by The Catering Company. The Works on Paper show takes to the Seventh Regiment Armory on Thursday; the fair runs through Sunday. And Artexpo New York begins at the Javits Center on Thursday and continues through Monday.

All attention turns to Los Angeles, as the Academy Awards fill the Kodak Theatre and spur on scads of parties. (You can watch our coverage on our new Southern California site.) And here in town, the New York chapter of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences holds its viewing party at the St. Regis, and the annual Entertainment Weekly viewing party heads to its usual roost, Elaine’s. Also on Sunday, the International Restaurant and Foodservice Show starts at the Javits and runs through Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the New York City Opera celebrates its spring gala at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts' New York State Theater and at FAO Schwarz the Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center holds its Bunny Hop fund-raiser.
