It seems no marketer, whether for a company big or small, wants to miss an opportunity to connect his brand with the king of all special events, the Academy Awards, and its official after-party, the Governors Ball. Press releases for everything from valet parkers to ID-badge manufacturers will flood entertainment journos’ inboxes this week in advance of the big day. Katy Sweet & Associates PR sent bottles of Sterling Vineyards’ Red Carpet Reserve wine—which will be served at the Governors Ball on Sunday—to members of the press. And Snake River Farms sent a release announcing that its Kobe beef will “be center stage as the main entree for the Governors Ball”; Wolfgang Puck will be preparing more than 550 pounds of the stuff (grilled and topped with Bordelaise sauce and wasabi potato puree) for the ball’s 1,500 guests.
