Downtown Museum Receives Community Grant

On Thursday, officials announced that the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation will award more than $37 million in community grants to nonprofit organizations. Of this sum, $2 million is going to the Museum of Chinese in America. The institution, dedicated to the history of Chinese Americans, will use the community enhancement fund grant toward its $15 million expansion campaign. Currently housed on Mulberry Street, the museum is building a new home on Centre Street, which will house galleries, a store, classrooms, meeting facilities, a two-story interior courtyard, and an exhibition fabrication workshop. Designed by architect Maya Lin, the 14,000-square-foot space is scheduled to open next fall.
