Wine is the focus at the new Riverdale spot Pic Nic, where 60 selections are available (many by the glass). Decked out in natural materials, the 40-seat room includes a large community table where owner Ian Risdon encourages customers to discuss and learn while they're tasting. The main food feature is the customized platter, made from a variety of meats, cheeses, and garnishes (apples or nuts, for example), all of which are displayed on a chalkboard wall. A small menu features five fixed items from chef Daniel Usher and daily, seasonally inspired specials.
Squarefoot Design pulled together Pic Nic's decor, which features a custom granite and ebony bar, teak furniture, a concrete floor, and a wall covered in natural stone. The venue is available for full bookings on Sundays and Mondays. Wine flights and group wine tastings are also available.
