Gen Art's event with Nokia at the A+D Museum last night took on a decidedly C.I.A.-inspired flavor, with guests unknowingly showing up to be part of a covert movie-making operation. The event was disguised as an art exhibition, with pieces on view throughout the space, but the exhibit was in fact a cover for the event's real core: Three filmmakers came in with casts, crews, and story lines and filmed three movies in the room during the event on Nokia's new Nseries phone, which the brand claims has impressive film and video capabilities. Guests received cards with a Web address where they can check out the finished products next week and vote for the best.
"People think they're coming to check out great artists, which they are," said Gen Art's regional production director, Matt Wise, before the reveal. "But they're also going to be in three movies filmed entirely on phones. Cool, right?"
