* INCOMING *

1. SMART LIGHT:
 LIFX, a Kickstarter project that aims to create a Wi-Fi connected, smartphone-controlled lightbulb, has raised $260,000 so far. The project, which is featured on Reddit, isn't just of interest to technology folks, but for the event industry too. Mashable: "The project creators claim the smartphone app will also let you choose any brightness for a specific bulb, a room, or a whole house, visualize music, assemble your lights into ‘groups,’ and more." http://on.mash.to/O8rTDF

2. FASHION CHATTER:
 Social media agency Whispr Group reported Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week-related Twitter volume was up a third from last season and double that of last September's shows, bringing the grand total of tweets to 670,000. According to the findings, Victoria Beckham earned the most tweets during the New York event, beating out Marc Jacobs and Diane von Furstenberg, while the #NYFW hashtag had more than seven times the engagement of #MBFW. 3. DIAMOND JUBILEE:
 Woman's Day turns 75 this year and, like a growing number of other brands, is celebrating the big milestone with an event for consumers. The New York Times: "Elaborate anniversary observances are part of a trend on Madison Avenue called comfort marketing, using nostalgia to woo consumers during uncertain economic times ... Still, there is a sense, particularly for print media, that brand stewards must strive for, as [Susan Spencer, the magazine's editor in chief] put it, 'a delicate balance, without question'—capitalizing on longevity without coming off as too long in the tooth to be contemporary." http://nyti.ms/UeGABP

4. ONE-TIME RUN:
 After just one run, the New York City Ironman Triathlon will not be returning in 2013, a decision organizers claim has to do with the logistical challenges of hosting it in a large urban area and not the death of a competitor during last month's inaugural race. Bloomberg Businessweekhttp://buswk.co/Ov7YyD

5. SOCIAL STRATEGY:
 Alex Frias, co-founder of brand experience agency Track Marketing Group, gives his top five strategies to make events more engaging on social channels. Forbes: "As more and more brands look to socialize their events, marketers need to integrate social media into the fabric of the event from the very beginning of the planning process. An integrated, holistic approach will trigger the best results—where social is the thread that touches all elements of the event, from beginning to end." http://onforb.es/RWxCLP

6. WHO'S BEHIND THE SCENES:
 In a list that doesn't include names that make the cover of Forbes, but are innovative in their own way, AdWeek has a rundown of the top 50 influential people in the media, advertising, entertainment, technology, and consumer brands industries. The list includes the digital directors of the Obama and Romney presidential campaigns and the vice president of cookies and marketing services at Kraft Foods. AdWeekhttp://bit.ly/PkWaMk
