1. AUSTIN CUTS NUMBER OF SXSW EVENT PERMITS: City officials are planning for fewer major events at this year’s South by Southwest and have changed the rules about sound levels at events. Austin Business Journal: “Concerns over the festival's impact on city infrastructure and the well being of residents have increased as large parties and other events sponsored by global brands have become a common occurrence. The city also said recently it plans to boost the number of police officers working downtown during SXSW.” http://bit.ly/1BrloQH

2. HOLLYWOOD'S POWER LUNCH SPOTS: Where do Hollywood’s biggest players meet to close deals? The Hollywood Reporter released its annual list of the top restaurants and clubs for lunch in Los Angeles now. 3. WHY INFINITI WANTS MORE EVENT MARKETING: Relying on a traditional ad mix of television, radio, and print spots won’t work to reach young car buyers, according to Matt Gunderson, chairman of the Infiniti National Dealer Advisory Board. He revealed plans for the car brand to emphasize event marketing under new global advertising agency Crispin Porter & Bogusky. Automotive News: “We've got to get out there and emphasize some other ways to reach that consumer, including through digital and events. I'm really pleased that they've identified events and experiential marketing as an area where they're going to invest because those are areas where we've been lacking.” http://bit.ly/15AOi5m

AUSTIN:  The third annual Austin Oyster Festival is February 28 at the Carson Creek Ranch. Seventy7Degrees and chef Chris Bauer co-produce the event.

BOSTON:  Tanglewood season tickets are now on sale. The season’s performers include Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, Idina Menzel, and Sheryl Crow. There will also be special events such as the Tanglewood Food & Wine Classic August 6-9.

CHICAGO:  The Chicago Academy for the Arts will host its annual benefit performance and "Taste for the Arts" gala on May 12. Held at Millennium Park Terrace, the gala will offer chef tastings, cocktails, and live jazz; the performance will be held at the Harris Theater prior to the gala.

LAS VEGAS:  Emerald Expositions and the National Kitchen & Bath Association reported that more than 500 exhibitors took part in this year's Kitchen & Bath Industry Show and attendance grew by 5 percent.

National Mining Association, organizer of MinExpo International, has chosen Frost Miller Group to promote its 2016 quadrennial trade show, slated for September 26-28 in Las Vegas. The company will create exhibitor and attendee promotional campaigns that include digital and print tactics, website development, and social media marketing.

LOS ANGELES:  The Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens will host an African American history celebration February 7-8 that includes music and dance, crafts, and animal feedings and keeper talks featuring animals from Africa.

MIAMI/SOUTH FLORIDA:  AmericanAirlines Arena has earned LEED Gold recertification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Among the arena's efforts to achieve the benchmark in environmental sustainability are its use of efficient water fixtures, a robust recycling program, sustainable purchasing practices, and its encouragement of mass transit use.

TORONTO:  Motionball, a fund-raiser for the Special Olympics Canada Foundation, takes place at Liberty Grand on February 6. The event has a “Glitz & Graffiti” theme and will include live graffiti artists, an art gallery, and a large silent auction.
