Nothing like summer to bring out the lighthearted details in events, and nothing like a toy brand partnership to double down on the playfulness factor. Such was the backdrop for Variety's Power of Youth event presented by Hasbro at Universal Studios on Saturday. Produced in conjunction with Variety’s annual Youth Impact Report, the afternoon event's festivities included live performances and an award presentation that celebrated young entertainers who have made philanthropic contributions.
About 500 guests, comprising under-25-year-old stars and the families directly affected by honorees’ benefiting charities, participated in life-size interpretations of Hasbro games. Guests tried their luck at larger-than-life Connect Four and Jenga games. At the My Little Pony Ponyfication station, guests got colored hair and so-called "cutie marks." The Nerf Rebelle targeting station encouraged guests to take aim with the Heartbreaker Bow and Guardian Crossbow. There was also a Pop-a-Shot activity
Presenting sponsor Generation-On had a “Comfort Kit” station where talent and guests packed bags with fun and useful items for kids in the Los Angeles shelter system. J.C. Penney had a custom T-shirt station, and honorees represented charities of their choice at various booths.
