To celebrate its first year in business, the Miami
Children's Museum hosted a fund-raising gala for adults that most kids would envy. Guests followed a red carpet into the museum, where performers flipped on a trampoline or waved from the top of a steel structure high above the ground—and the circus-like welcome was just the beginning.
The building's bright and colorful environment was echoed in the gala's simple decor. Cocktail tables with light blue linens were topped with an array of fresh flowers in plastic yellow toy trucks—ideal centerpieces for the child-themed night.
Lisa Bowser, the museum's special events manager, hired Barton G to cater the event, which had several food stations throughout the building featuring childhood favorites like hot dogs, popcorn chicken, chili fries, nachos, and goldfish crackers. One of the most tempting food stations covered a long table with cavity-forming goodies like cotton candy, chocolate bars, candy apples, and peanut brittle.
Besides creating a nostalgic evening for guests, the museum also raised money for its educational programs with a silent auction. A multitude of luxury items were up for grabs, including signed sports memorabilia from Alonzo Mourning and Jeff Conine of the Florida Marlins, spa certificates for the Elemis Spa in Merrick Park or the Mandarin Oriental, and getaway packages to the Crowne Plaza in Grand Bahama Island or the Ritz-Carlton in Aspen, Colorado.
