Who doesn't love fresh flowers? That was Penny Glazier's thinking when she organized a fund-raising event for Flowerpower, a nonprofit group that picks up fresh flowers from special events and distributes them to hospices and nursing homes. (Think of them as a City Harvest for flowers.)
Hosted by Glazier, wedding stylist Maria McBride, and Flowerpower's Nancy Lawlor, the event gathered nine top decor pros to design their versions of bridal shower tables at an afternoon tea at Monkey Bar. Chef Julian Clauss-Ehlers served up nibbles like smoked salmon-and chive tea sandwiches, and raisin nutmeg scones with .phpberry jam and clotted cream to about 90 guests from the wedding and event planning industries, who paid $75 each to attend.
Some notable designs included Indigo Moon's table, which featured lampshades covered with red gerbera blossoms and globes of purple flowers; Randi Costa's lush orchid and succulent creation; and McBride's elegant arrangements of white flowers set in large pedestal vases.
