What could be more in the spirit of New York than entertainment by the city's men in blue? The NYPD Emerald Society Pipes and Drums, one of the nation's oldest and largest pipe bands, is traditionally associated with the city's annual Saint Patrick's Day Parade, but they are also available for special events. (We saw them perform at the New York Restoration Project's patriotic-themed benefit, for example.) The group has approximately 100 members, all active or retired police personnel, ranging in rank from officer to captain. --Jill Musguire
