1. STATE DEPT. GOES DIGITAL: Taking a cue from the hottest tech industry events, the U.S. State Department hosted a two-day Tech@State event at George Washington University last week. FCW: "In some ways, the Tech@State atmosphere is similar to what one might find at a Hackathon, with open data and information taking prominence. … One needed to go no farther than social media outlets—another area where State has made a conscious effort to improve its visibility in recent years—to witness the response to the outreach efforts. The tweets rolled in every few seconds—accompanied by the hash-tag #TechAtState or directed @techAtState—with hundreds of Twitter users promoting Tech@State or reacting to the two-day event's collection of intelligent technology, election and policy panel discussions." http://bit.ly/Yz04aW

2. OSCARS' YOUTH PUSH: Reaching out to a younger audience, the Academy Awards started the Oscar Experience College Search, which offers at least six winners the chance to appear on the telecast. Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron: “In re-imagining what we want the Oscar show to be, we wanted everyone appearing on that stage to feel a deep commitment to film and its legacy, and most importantly, its future. That was the impetus in creating this special honor for young film students who will inspire a new generation to create the films that will be honored in the future.” The New York Times: http://nyti.ms/U6JF5S

3. BIG RATINGS: With an average of 22.4 million viewers, this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade drew its largest audience since 2001. The New York Times: "The 86-year-old parade, a New York City tradition, has been broadcast for the last 50 years by NBC in partnership with Macy’s. … It started and ended with mentions of Hurricane Sandy, which devastated parts of New York weeks before Thanksgiving." http://nyti.ms/X9ynVy

4. THREE WAITERS SHOUT-OUT: Singer Adam Lambert describes his work in events for the Three Waiters International in an interview on VH1 (mention is 38 minutes in). http://bit.ly/SBc1Jx

5. REMEMBERING ZIG ZIGLAR: Motivational speaker and author Zig Ziglar died last week in Texas. Associated Press: "With an aim at helping people achieve success in their careers and personal lives, in addition to a focus on Christianity, Ziglar was a prolific speaker who appeared at events alongside world leaders including several U.S. presidents and former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher." http://bit.ly/QsNpCX
