1. STUDIO 54 MEMORIES: A collection of memorabilia from one of the legendary club's founders will be auctioned off Saturday. The New York Times: "As Steve Rubell saw it, the key to a successful party was populating a room with guests more interesting than you. 'Look at the Top 10 people who were there,' said Bill Hamilton, who was Mr. Rubell’s companion in the 1980s. 'If you’re one of them, it’s a horrible party.'" http://nyti.ms/XBVMw3
2. SUNDANCE SUIT: Hype Creative Agency is suing the Sundance Film Festival over a dispute about how the company marketed the venue Zoom Restaurant. The suit says Hype—which has worked with Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Motorola, and AT&T—lost its contract with the venue for using a photo of festival founder Robert Redford in its marketing materials. The Hollywood Reporter: "Gaining one of the choice party locations appeared to be a boom for the company. Hype says it had reservations for about a dozen clients and estimated that over the next three years, it would rake in $500,000 in profits." The company claims it could not find a replacement venue and has missed opportunities to work on events at Coachella Music Festival, Cannes Film Festival, and the Grammys. http://bit.ly/W8s8gW
3. NO-SHOW OPRAH: Count Oprah Winfrey among the celebrities skipping this year's presidential inauguration. Her absence—she supposedly has speaking gigs outside the U.S.—is notable because of her large role in President Obama's first election and appearance at several balls and an after-party at the White House. 4. HAVING FUN.: The Grammy-nominated band Fun. performed at cars.com's party and at the Fillmore Detroit as part of the annual North American International Auto Show's preview week, and singer Nate Ruess shared the sign of a successful band: lighting. Billboard: "I guess we can afford things like a light show, that type of stuff," he said of an upcoming tour. "For us to get to kind of do that and get to bring out a lighting package and all that other type of stuff, that's the stuff that success, it's just amazing that it affords you the opportunity to do that." http://bit.ly/XjAp0q
5. FASHION AS PEEP SHOW: New York's The Cut blog: "Jean Paul Gaultier, ever a fan of weird humor, staged today's fall 2013 menswear presentation like a strip club, complete with peep-show-style booths and neon-pink lighting." http://nym.ag/11CI68I
