1. SPEAKER CLINTON: Looking for a big-name speaker at your next event? Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has signed with Harry Walker Agency and will start giving speeches this spring. The agency also represents former President Bill Clinton. Politico: "Industry officials expect that she will be one of the highest paid speakers in the history of the circuit, with fees well into the six figures in the United States and abroad." http://politi.co/VZGl4k
2. BEST MOVIE MARKETING: Getting people to watch movies has resulted in experiential campaigns that are both complex and creative. New York-based creative director Michael English reviews the best efforts, starting with The Dark Knight, the campaign for which had a viral bent and included fake newspapers and cell phones baked into cakes. Ad Week: "It also helped deliver a staggering $1 billion in ticket sales worldwide. And that success massively upped the ante for other marketers. No longer would a mere teaser video be enough to inspire fans to duke it out on message boards." http://bit.ly/Xk0tt5
Here's an upcoming example of movie marketing for Oz The Great and Powerful, which has a March 8 release. Women's Wear Daily: "Selfridges, for example, is planning a Yellow Brick Road and Emerald City-themed shop to fete the film and showcase merchandise designed around it. This includes footwear by Nicholas Kirkwood, whose capsule collection was unveiled Sunday. It features a dramatic scarlet and black bootie; a strappy black sandal; a silvery glitter stiletto with a 3-D ruffle, and a zigzag men’s brogue." http://wwd.us/Yk0YT7
3. GOOGLE INSIDERS: Google is finally sharing what happened at two Glass Foundry events in New York and San Francisco earlier this month. (Mashable says attendees had to sign nondisclosure agreements to attend.) The search giant posted photos from the event on its developer Google Plus page. http://on.mash.to/11R3R69
4. SMART FASHION: Launching at London Fashion Week, Burberry is personalizing its products by embedding digital chips loaded with content about the products. Mashable: "The chips will activate short films to bring the product in question to life, telling the story of its creation, from sketches to runway edits. They will also show video of the customer's name being engraved on metal nameplates—also new this season—that are stitched into the lining of the coats and bags." http://bit.ly/150NwcU
