Cheryl Cecchetto of Sequoia Productions transformed the sixth floor of the Kodak Theatre into a modern Versailles for the Governors Ball, the awards' official post-party. Nelson Sosa and Ilia Anossov built a domed ceiling and added 54 crystal chandeliers to supplement the three existing fixtures in the room. Walls were draped with blue fabric and photos from Oscar-recognized films like The Sea Hawk and Swingtime were interspersed with floor-to-ceiling mirrors placed to enlarge the space. "I wanted color to be very prominent this year, so I selected blues, purples and periwinkles for my background," says Cecchetto, who set tables with rich blue tablecloths and added gold Chivari chairs, gold chair backs and gold napkins to complement the regal palette. Mark Held of Mark's Garden designed three different centerpieces for the rectangular and round tables that surrounded the rotating stage in the center of the room that held the Gregg Fields Orchestra. Celebrities and studio heads eagerly consumed Wolfgang Puck's four-course dinner-including caviar, filet mignon and Maine lobster-after sitting through the three-hours-plus award show.
