A red carpet and swirling spotlights were the nods to a
Hollywood premiere at a fund-raising event for the Tracy’s Kids pediatric art-therapy program at Georgetown University’s Lombardi Cancer Center on Tuesday,
February 13. Inspired by the award-show season, Stephanie Kenyon, vice
president of external marketing for the Cancer Research & Prevention
Foundation (which manages Tracy’s Kids), placed a red carpet from the front
door of Regal Gallery Place Stadium 14 to the entrance of the chichi bowling
lounge at Lucky Strike. Once inside the lounge, partygoers nibbled on finger
foods before viewing one of six Oscar-nominated films, including The Queen
and Dreamgirls. Although an ice storm kept 400 of the 700 invitees at
home, Jan Mahrer, the foundation’s executive director, still managed to raise
$565,000. “When you do an event at this time of year, you just have to bunt and
hope for the best,” said Mahrer.

To complete the event's award-show theme, guests walked a red carpet, where they mingled with well-known locals like movie reviewer Arch Campbell.
