Following what's seen as the most romantic day of the year-Valentine's Day-the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation held its 34th annual Love and Hope Ball in Hollywood. In keeping with this year's theme, "Creating An Evening of Dance and Romance," shades of red, pink, burgundy, and creamy white, were spun from floor to ceiling within the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa's ballroom.
Atlas Floral & Event Decorators draped the ceiling from corner to corner with long white linen panels lit with piping of white lights and converging in the center of the room to create a maypole overhead. The muted black table linens and chairs, provided by Nuage Designs and Panache: A Classic Party Rental Company, drew attention to the towering centerpieces, which consisted of three levels of blooming white roses shaped into spheres and topped with red rose petals, surrounded by candles accented with dangling strands of crystals. Even the dance floor was adorned with a tropical oasis complete with candles, dense green vegetation, metallic orbs, and a fountain in the center, also designed by Atlas. At their tables, guests each found a tin of caviar situated on a mound of carved ice at each place setting. For the main course the hotel served veal chops with a goat cheese & chive twice baked potato, wild mushroom confit, and baby carrots. The feast culminated with a selection of cheese with fruits and nuts, a chocolate guitar and saxophone sculpture, and dulce de leche cheesecake covered with chocolate ganache.
For entertainment, two bands-Debbie Taylor and Standing Ovation from Music Associates and the Marlow Rosado Orchestra, courtesy of Bridge Management Inc.-took turns performing on opposite ends of the dinning hall. Additionally, dancers from the flamenco dance troupe La Mystique made their way through the crowd during dinner and onto main floor for a short performance. They were not alone for long, however, as diners became dancers and cut a rug of their own.
