Eco-friendly restaurant Virtue Feed and Grain opened in a former 1800s feed house—which inspired the name—in Alexandria on June 10 after nearly a month’s delay. The 7,000-square-foot restaurant has undergone an extensive renovation using mainly repurposed materials to create four separate indoor and outdoor dining areas for groups of 40 to 200 with built-in entertainment and gaming systems.
The bilevel restaurant can seat 100 in the first-floor dining room with an additional 50 on the patio. The buildings' restoration combines its original warehouse ambience with an industrial edge; the floors were restored with natural wood from previously abandoned structures, the beam ceilings were kept, and air ducts exposed. The high-top tables and bar are also used with reclaimed wood. There are pull-down screens for Wii gaming and multiple TVs behind the bar.
There is additional seating for 200 upstairs in the bar and lounge, including a long table for parties of 24. The second-floor game room can host about 50 for private events. It’s outfitted with pool tables, dartboards, and arcade games, as well as couches for lounge-style seating.
The menu is comprised of classic pub food like steak and chips, chicken potpie, and roast pork shoulder, as well as seafood options of scallops with risotto and rockfish with colcannon, using all-local and farm-fresh ingredients. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner, and brunch service will begin in July. Buyouts are available for 350.
