Seattle rapper Macklemore's hit song "Thrift Shop" is topping charts, and now it's influencing event decor. When Orange County-based investment banking company Roth Capital Partners held its 25th annual O.C. conference from March 17 to 20 at the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel in Dana Point, it brought the rapper for headline entertainment. And the group played up the performance with an overall eye-catching, upscale, thrift-store theme.
C.E.O. Byron Roth oversaw the program, bringing in Elite Productions International to once again produce and design. The night of the party saw the tent transformed into a space that Elite vice president of special events and marketing Pawntra Shadab described as "funky, cool, and fresh." Brick wall panels, wood floors, larger-than-life light-up letters, handmade french cotton flowers, and a mix of eclectic furniture and thrift-shop finds helped create the environment.
"This was truly a welcomed challenge; it wasn't as simple as most events where you can source from few vendors," said Shadab. "Not only did we mix and match from multiple vendors, but we custom-made many pieces such as the walls, letters, and handmade cotton flowers. There were also countless trips to thrift shops and flea markets to find the perfect details that made up the event."
