* INCOMING *
1. HUFFPO, PERMITS, AND THE N.Y.P.D.: Author Naomi Wolf was arrested Tuesday after leaving Huffington Post's Game Changers event in New York and trying to help Occupy Wall Street protestors camped outside the event. Wolf's own account in The Guardian: "They had been informed that the Huffington Post event had a permit that forbade them to use the sidewalk. I knew from my investigative reporting on NYC permits that this was impossible: a private entity cannot lease the public sidewalks; even film crews must allow pedestrian traffic. I asked the police for clarification—no response." Wolf—who also writes for HuffPo—and her partner were arrested when they refused to leave the sidewalk. Her full account:

From the Huffington Post’s story: “The police never advised the event staff about their decision to remove the activists, nor did the event permit stipulate for such actions. ‘The NYPD asked the security agent in charge whether we had secured permits allowing us to place a red carpet on the sidewalk and to build a curbside tent, and we stated that we did,’ explained Mario Ruiz, Huffington Post Media Group's vice president of communications. ‘We did not instruct the police to move the protesters nor were we consulted by the police in connection with their decision to move the protesters.’”
