1. INAUGURAL FASHION: Brooks Brothers sent its company historian to Washington to advise on the art of bow ties and discuss a particular sartorial tradition. Politico: "[Brooks Brothers] clothes have been worn by 39 out of 44 presidents, including a few on Inauguration Day itself (Lincoln, Grant, Wilson, Teddy Roosevelt). Obama sported a Brooks Brothers scarf, overcoat, and gloves in 2009 on the big day." http://politi.co/ZRnjcg

2. TWEET SERVICE: Washington's Madison Hotel generated buzz across the country when it announced its $47,000 inauguration package, which included a "social media butler." That person would write tweets, snap Instagram photos, and update Facebook statuses so guests would not have to. It's a gimmick, but one that might catch on, according to the social media marketer who was tapped by the Madison for the role: "I see us offering this sort of service in the future—maybe not just like this, but having someone on hand at an event, a conference, or even a wedding to have what happens recorded via social media." http://bit.ly/W4vmlE

3. REDESIGNING TECH EVENTS: Have gender-specific tech events run their course? The Next Web: "When HP recently announced they wanted to hold a women’s only hackathon, their facilitator’s program director, Geeks Without Bounds' Willow Brugh, advised them to make it a non-gender hackathon for everyone aptly named ‘Everyone Hacks.'" http://tnw.co/XBXkpS

4. TRANSLATING THE CATERER: A new book might help. The New York Times: "The excuse for buying a dictionary of culinary terms, even if you already have one, is that the vocabulary keeps growing. 'Umami,' for example, which 'The Diner’s Dictionary: Word Origins of Food & Drink' says was coined in 1908, is still relatively new to the English-speaking world." http://nyti.ms/13zLsrD
