It’s been less than three months since the video-sharing app Vine debuted for iOS devices, and already it has become the most downloaded free app in the App Store. As brands and planners figure out how to jump into the six-second video production craze, Crowd Activation (the event division of Tangible Interaction) is creating a system to easily display an event’s Vine videos. Vine Wall is a continuous live feed of every Vine video tagged with an event’s hashtag. The company ran a test Thursday through Sunday by pulling in Vine videos with the hashtag #Coachella and displaying them online at vinewall.co.

“We know that the Coachella audience is a younger demographic and also an audience of early adopters. We made the assumption that probably everybody there has a smartphone,” said Andy Meakin, the company’s director of production. “It’s been really interesting. We saw a constant stream of performance clips and people just having a good time.”

Vine Wall operates similar to Tangible’s Social Mosa product that displays Twitter and Instagram posts at events. The collage includes up to 40 videos at one time and can be displayed on any surface, such as multiple small LED screens, one large screen, or alternative surfaces such as a building. The display can be customized, for example to show the event logo, hashtag, or sponsor information. The system includes a mobile app that will allow event hosts to moderate the feed.

“What we like about Vine more than anything is it gives the guests an even greater chance of exercising some personal creativity,” Meakin said. "You can make a mini-movie. It’s going to be really interesting to see how event guests use it."
