August 14, 2013: Twitter's Strategy for V.M.A.s, Major Change to U.S. Open, Emmys Forced to Change Date

1. TWITTER'S STRATEGY FOR CAPITALIZING ON V.M.A. BUZZ: Twitter and Viacom formed a partnership to promote tweets to brands that want to be a part of MTV's Video Music Awards this month. Advertising Age: "We call [the V.M.A.s] our Super Bowl of pop culture," said Dario Spina, executive vice president of integrated marketing for Viacom Music and Entertainment.. "We're always pretty sure there's going to be a moment or many moments like when Kanye busted up on stage." http://bit.ly/14Lhztn

2. EMMYS FORCED TO CHANGE DATE: Next year's Emmys will come a month earlier—August instead of September—to not compete with NBC's Sunday Night Football, which last year was the most-watched show on television. Hollywood Reporter: "The move would put the 2014 Emmys out of the fall TV season but in the past the shift has been welcomed by publicists and talent who say they prefer completing their promotional duties by the end of the summer, as opposed to having them bleed into the fall, when film festivals and production commitments often make for chaotic schedules." http://bit.ly/1eJ8Syr

3. NO MORE RAINOUTS AT U.S. OPEN: The United States Tennis Association plans to build a retractable roof over Arthur Ashe Stadium, part of $500 million in renovations to the New York home of the U.S. Open. New York Post: "Ticket holders have been disappointed that the last two years of men’s singles U.S. Open finals, won by Novak Djokovic and then Andy Murray, were rained out, pushing the matches to Monday." http://bit.ly/1cN4hPj
