Pool Party Gives Beach Bags
At a kickoff party for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, guests mingled, snacked, and got mini-massages from Bliss spa staffers around the pool at the W Hotel—Westwood. Lest their summery pool-party experience end when the event did, each guest received a packed LeSportsac gift bag including a Cia Maritima bikini, a swimsuit cover-up from C&C California, Havaianas flip-flops, Bliss sunscreen and body scrub, and Mercedes-Benz-branded baseball caps to keep the sun out of their eyes. Sponsor Judith Ripka also threw in a gift certificate toward her jewels, which were displayed in cases for sale at the party.
2 B Free Runway Leaves Footprints
Catwalkers Paris and Nicky Hilton weren't the only dolled-up touches on the runway for clothing line 2 B Free's show. The show's backdrop had a graffiti look—similar to the printing on the lounge pieces in the collection—and the catwalk was decked with a series of red footprints that evoked bare feet in the sand to go with 2 B Free's casual, beachy look. Best Events produced the show and after-party at the GM penthouse in the Regent Beverly Wilshire.
Suites Set Up Stylish Seating
Easily accessible by shuttle bus from the runway shows at Smashbox Studios, the Design Suites at the nearby H.D. Buttercup furniture showroom gave press and stylists a chance to browse designers' goods in a more casual, relaxed environment. Pieces from H.D. Buttercup's eclectic inventory—comfy sofa seating, area rugs, and brightly colored shelves—were assembled to simulate a homey living room, which encouraged guests to kick off their Choos and unwind (and then wander into the showroom for some housewares shopping, further encouraged by 20-percent-off coupons distributed as guests left the suites).
Nicholson Has Illuminated Invitations
People's Revolution distributed invitations to the fashion show for designer Jennifer Nicholson (Jack's daughter, of course) that had a distinctly Victorian look. A faux leather envelope printed with "Happily Ever After, by Jennifer Nicholson" in gold ink opened to reveal the event's details on an ornate sheet designed to look like a centuries-old illuminated manuscript. (Nicholson's invite wasn't the only one with a ye-olde look; we also got several envelopes closed with faux wax seals.)
Mean Has Arty Installation
At Mean magazine's after-party for the Antik, Taverniti, and Yanuk runway shows at Hollywood's LAX, a cool art installation got guests' attention. The event's hostesses—Joy Bryant, Elizabeth Banks, and Bijou Phillips—showcased their self-portraits, alongside a tableaux of mannequins entangled in somewhat suggestive poses. A white dome emblazoned with a gobo of the pop culture mag's logo housed the installation in a parking lot adjacent to the club.
