Documentary Surveys Graffiti Scene

This Friday, Laemmle’s Sunset 5 will screen award-winning director Jon Reiss’ documentary Bomb It. The film follows graffiti subculture around the world, beginning with a look at the urban art form’s early roots in New York and Philadelphia in the 1970s, and going on to explore international approaches to the public medium, like the anime-inspired pieces of Japan, mural work of Latin America, and surrealist-like traditions of Europe. Reiss spoke with close to 200 street artists in researching the film, and presents interviews with well-known names on the global graffiti scene like Taki 183, Shepard Bailey, and Brazilian twins Os Gemeos.
