Ancient traditions announced the upcoming third annual Miami Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival, which will take place October 22 and 23 at Brickell Key.
Adriana Oliva and Maria Canizales, event planners for the Miami Overseas Chinese Association, began the evening with a Lion Dance, a symbolic ceremony said to bring luck to events and awaken dancing dragons, traditional Chinese symbols of long life and prosperity. With a clash of cymbals and the rumble of drums, members of the Lee Koon Hung Kung Fu Association snaked through the main ballroom of the Mandarin Oriental Miami beneath the flowing silks and dramatic heads of two dancing dragons. The performance culminated with a dance of two dragons onstage as the audience cheered.
