The new Hyatt Regency Toronto, which opened to guests on King Street West last month, marked the completion of the renovations on site with a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday. Fifty invited guests had the opportunity to tour the redesigned hotel—which formerly operated as the Holiday Inn on King. New additions to the venue include a lobby bar, a restaurant with two private dining rooms, a screening room, the Regency Club, and a fitness center.
Fire and water features provide a focal point in the lobby and the King Street Social Kitchen/Bar—the hotel's new restaurant. Hirschberg Design Group, which completed the project, used a color palette of gray, black, cream, and brown throughout the public spaces. "We totally changed both the layout of the lobby and the entranceway," George Foussias of Hirschberg said. Guests can enter the hotel via King Street and through a circular port cocher—featuring large glass doors—off of Widmer Street.
Inside, curved African Makassar wood creates a dramatic backdrop for the reception desk and communal seating surrounds a pool with a waterfall and floating fireplace. A circular bar, called the Mix Lounge, is situated in the corner of the lobby and leather club chairs provide seating throughout the lounge. A second pool of water serves as a focal point in the downstairs lounge, which features an ebony bar with back-lit onyx panels.
Three glass enclosed fireplaces run the length of the wall behind the open-concept kitchen in the restaurant, which has two private rooms that can accommodate groups of up to 16 and 22. A private screening room, outfitted with a digital projector and draped in red silk sheers, is located off of the restaurant and can hold up to 44 people.
The hotel has 394 guest rooms and 32 suites, all of which have been renovated. The Hyatt also offers two ballrooms and an executive boardroom on the convention level and 7,000 square feet of meeting rooms in the conference center. A rooftop pool and patio with views of the city skyline is available for private events. A second rooftop patio with Ipe wood decking and an outdoor fire pit is located off of the Regency Lounge.
