These spaces offer smart details like ocean views, arty decor, and on-site activities.
1. In July 2008, Joie de Vivre unveiled the Hotel Maya in Long Beach, next to the Queen Mary. An 11-acre waterfront property that underwent a $20 million renovation, Hotel Maya has 197 guest rooms, a heated lap pool, a Jacuzzi, and a canal with private floating cabanas. More than 20,000 square feet of meeting and event space can accommodate as many as 500. Fifteen indoor-outdoor spaces include five meeting rooms and an executive boardroom.
2. Hyatt Hotels & Resorts introduced its second property under the Andaz brand on the Sunset Strip in January 2008. The 14-story Hotel Andaz has 5,500 square feet of indoor meeting space. Additional spaces include a rooftop deck and heated pool area for 100 and a 100-seat French restaurant, RH. The hotel offers 257 rooms, including 20 suites.
3. In Beverly Hills’ Golden Triangle district, the eight-story Spanish colonial revival Montage Beverly Hills opened in November 2008. The 9,000 square feet of event facilities include a 5,000-square-foot ballroom with a large prefunction area and balconies, and the 70-person Rooftop Conservatory offers alfresco event space.
4. Scheduled to open in January, the W Hollywood at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street will have 10,000 square feet of meeting space and 25,000 square feet of overall event space. For downtime there is a pool with daybeds, cabanas, and a bar, and Drai’s Hollywood nightclub.
