CAESARS BUILDING ON VEGAS STRIP: Caesars Entertainment has tapped L.A. mall developer Caruso Affiliated to develop a massive entertainment, dining, hospitality, and retail district on the Las Vegas Strip. Known as the Linq, the $550-million complex will comprise more than 200,000 square feet of gross leasable area facing Caesars Palace, and will include a giant Ferris wheel—the tallest in the world at 550 feet—with transparent cabins that hold 40 people each. 3. OPEN KITCHEN AS THEATER: New York Times theater critic Charles Isherwood writes about the drama unfolding behind the scenes at chef George Mendes's restaurant Aldea, where a six-seat bar fronts directly on the kitchen: "The fascinating magic of watching a high-level kitchen function lies partly in the accretion of detail, as you see the dishes being constructed in layers and with the kind of expertise that, as in a good theater production, makes the most difficult feats look easy." (Also with a slide show of strangely Instagram-style photos.)

4. MADONNA'S SOCIAL MEDIA PROMOTION: Vodka brand Smirnoff is teaming up with Madonna to help find a new dancer for the performer's next tour. Mashable: "The promotion, called the Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project, asks fans from around the world to share their nightlife experiences on the brand’s Facebook Page. The campaign, created by ad agency JWT, will include an event on November 12 in which 50 parties will happen simultaneously. Madonna will be attending one of the parties where dancers will compete in front of her."

5. APPLE STORE RENDERINGS UNVEILED: The Metropolitan Transportation Authority released a look at a library-style Apple store planned for Grand Central Terminal. The New York Times: "Apple’s renderings do not show a store filled with harried commuters in charcoal gray suits or gray-haired financiers barking into iPhones. Instead, they show a soaring space within the terminal—kind of reminiscent of a fancy university library’s card-catalog section—peopled by lanky, casually dressed young people, mostly men, bent over laptops, smiling, stuffing their hands in their pockets and consulting Apple technicians."
