1. HOST REVIEW: Host Seth MacFarlane earned mixed reviews—despite an opening gag that had him previewing headlines of his performance in a flash-forward with William Shatner. USA Today: "Awash in self-indulgence, neither he nor his 3-hour-and-35-minute show ever seemed to hit a comfortable, confident stride, which is a shame, because the broadcast had a lot of entertainment to offer. Indeed, as with the Grammys, the awards themselves sometimes seemed to be an afterthought. Heaven knows the show seemed to be in no particular hurry to get to them." http://usat.ly/VGMyjg

2. MUSICAL MOMENTS: The show itself ran long—mostly because of musical performances from Adele, Jennifer Hudson, Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Catherine Zeta-Jones, as well as the cast of Les Miserables. But in one well-received musical change, winners who took to long at the mic were played off to the theme from Jaws. New York Times: http://nyti.ms/13GGXd5

3. FIRST LADY CAMEO: In an evening with few surprises, a genuine coup was having First Lady Michelle Obama present the award for best picture from the White House. She used the occasion to promote a favorite cause, arts education. Los Angeles Times: "To many Hollywood big shots, the moment may have trumped former President Bill Clinton’s surprise appearance at the Golden Globes to introduce best picture nominee Lincoln." http://lat.ms/WlwYa6

4. HIGHLIGHTS AND LOWLIGHTS: The Hollywood Reporter curated a list of best and worst Oscar moments—although it's unclear which one host Seth MacFarlane's "We Saw Your Boobs" song falls under. http://bit.ly/WdUkDN

5. ACADEMY, ANIMATED: It's the Oscars, as told by GIF. The Cut blog: http://bit.ly/WlYYu1

6. INDIE SPIRITS: Score one for sponsor Jameson at the Film Independent Spirit Awards Saturday. Women's Wear Daily: "After Derek Connolly won the first award for best first screenplay for Safety Not Guaranteed, the snail’s pace of his acceptance speech caused Bryan Cranston to walk onstage and pour him one of the minibar-sized bottles of Jameson that adorned each place setting, while Kerry Washington jokingly led him off stage." http://wwd.us/Wm0750

7. LOW-KEY RAZZIES: Finally, the Razzies gave out their awards for the worst movies of the year from the continental breakfast room of the Holiday Inn Express in Hollywood. Entertainment Weekly: "None of the winners showed to pick up their awards this year, which made the ceremony less than glamorous. Buzz of Sandra Bullock’s acceptance for her Worst Actress award in 2010 for All About Steve (which she won the night before nabbing the Oscar for Best Actress for The Blind Side) and Halle Berry’s acceptance for Catwoman in 2004 were the talk of the room." http://bit.ly/XSMaOi
