September 10, 2015: How WMG/IMG Is Reinventing Fashion Week, Apple Criticized for Lack of Diversity at Launch Event, How the Creative Arts Emmys Plan to Get You to Watch

1. HOW WMG/IMG IS REINVENTING FASHION WEEK: Starting with the name—now New York Fashion Week: the Shows—nearly everything about the spectacle, which begins today, has changed following the acquisition of IMG by WME in 2013. New venues, sponsors, and an entire way of thinking about the venerable fashion event are reflected in the philosophy of its new owners. The New York Times: “This heralds, said Pierre Rougier, an owner of PR Consulting, which represents such brands as Versace, Dior and Altuzarra, ‘the officialization of fashion as entertainment.’ It also introduces a new look for New York Fashion Week. One that is less overtly commercial, with more emphasis on the creative — meant to seduce viewers both inside and (this is crucial) outside the industry, with designers cast in the role of Talent.” http://nyti.ms/1VNQjAz

2. APPLE CRITICIZED FOR LACK OF DIVERSITY AT LAUNCH EVENT: Too few women and people of color participated in Apple’s big product launch announcement on Wednesday, according to critics, who also slammed the company for demonstrations that included having a man “fix” a woman’s neutral face into a smile using a photoshop tool. Mashable: “In a move that is both depressing and encouraging, Apple selected three women to present on stage. Three is apparently a record-breaking number for such events, but more than a dozen people gave presentations. And they were largely a parade of white men.” http://on.mash.to/1i0k827

3. HOW THE CREATIVE ARTS EMMYS PLAN TO GET YOU TO WATCH: Opting to use big-name presenters instead of a host, keeping the bars open during the show, and infusing a “younger and sexier” vibe are among the strategies that first-year producer Bob Bain is using to increase the profile of the Creative Arts Emmys. The Hollywood Reporter: “There's only so much change one can reasonably recommend in a format like this. There are certain things that we're trying this year to make it feel fresher and a little more contemporary, but this is not a full-scale reinvention of the franchise because I don't think that's appropriate — or possible, honestly.” http://bit.ly/1Qqp2Bf
