Universal Orlando's park devoted to Harry Potter is set to open in spring 2010. And after several years of planning, Universal finally released details about the park last week, including the fictional locations from the books and films that will make up the extension of Universal's Islands of Adventure.

Called the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the immersive environment will include multiple attractions, shops, and a signature restaurant. To give the franchise an authentic treatment, Universal Orlando collaborated with author J.K. Rowling, Warner Brothers Consumer Products, and Warner Brothers.

Story elements that inspired the environment include the town of Hogsmeade and Hogwarts Castle. Although retail and dining facilities seem to be the focus of the complex, there are also three attractions planned, including a twin high-speed roller coaster, a more family-friendly ride, and an under-wraps project titled "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey."

In a press release last week, Universal Parks and Resorts chairman and C.E.O. Tom Williams had this to say about the park: "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be unlike any other experience on earth, and we can't wait to see the looks on our guests' faces as they enter this rich environment."

An official opening date is expected to be solidified early next year.
