The magazine named Russell Simmons its brand visionary for the year and also honored creative forces at Dick's Sporting Goods, Dove, Phat Farm, and Volkswagen. Kevin Mayer, vice president of marketing at the auto brand earned this praise: "Under Mayer, VW has upped its digital spend and taken the sort of creative risks heritage brands normally shy away from. In a memorable tie-in with Discovery’s Shark Week last summer, VW built a shark cage in the shape of a Beetle and tossed it in with the great whites. JON HAMM AND AMY POEHLER THROW EMMY LOSERS PARTY: It started out as an in-joke between the often-nominated-but-never-winners Jon Hamm and Amy Poehler, but the two took their "Losers Lounge" concept and turned it into an actual Emmys after-party Sunday night. The fete at Soho House doubled as a fund-raiser. E! 3. SPORTS VENUE TO UNVEIL LARGEST HD SCREEN: Things just got bigger in Texas. The Texas Motor Speedway will debut "Big Hoss," the largest high-definition screen, at its first Nascar event in 2014. The Panasonic screen measures 20,633 square feet, and, like the massive screen at nearby Cowboys Stadium, challenges the definition of watching a live event when an on-site screen provides a better view than the action in front of fans. Dallas Morning News: “It’s not about being bigger than Charlotte Motor Speedway,” president Eddie Gossage said. “It’s not about being bigger than Cowboys Stadium. BOSTON: Faneuil Hall Marketplace will host its annual A Cappella Competition October 19-20. Groups from Boston College, Harvard, Simmons, and more will compete for three cash prizes.
CHICAGO: "The Jaguar Alive Driving Experience," an 18-city tour, will stop in Chicago on Thursday and Friday. The free event lets consumers get behind the wheel of three different Jaguar models in a closed-course setting.
The Godfrey Hotel is scheduled to open in February. In River North, the property will have 221 guest rooms and a 10,000-square-foot indoor-outdoor lounge.
LAS VEGAS: In celebration of National Dog Week the last week of September, Caesars Palace will host the first “Running of the Bulldogs,” in which 30 bulldogs will race in front of the property toward a doghouse replica of the Colosseum.
