The 2014 Oscars have finally arrived, as have all the pageantry, parties, and party crashers. Since zkipster is at the front gate of some of the world’s greatest events, we have identified three of the worst types of event crashing offenders you should know. Because event crashing doesn't just happen in Hollywood. It happens everywhere.

The problem with event crashers is they don't just innocuously cheat the system; they can pose a serious threat to your event security and safety. They can hurt your image and jeopardize your brand. It is crucial to know how to stop them. So, what's your best line of defense? Awareness!

  • The Identity Thief: The Identity Thief is bold. Oftentimes, they'll try and get close to you to read off unchecked names from your guest list. They're not below impersonating someone else to gain entry. Make sure to lean back and keep your guest list guarded. Favorite Line: Right there, that's me!
  • The Squeaky Wheel: The Squeaky Wheel will cause the most stress and aggravation. They're the ones who demand to be let in and like to list off all the people they know inside. They think that if they complain enough, they'll probably get some grease. The best way to deal with this party crasher is to remain calm, polite, and firm. Favorite Line: Do you know who I am?!
  • The Sly Sneak: The Sly Sneak has no use for words. They know they can't get in that way. Instead, they'll look for weak points in your security, try for an unguarded back door—they may even try to hitch a ride in the back of a car trunk. The only way to deal with this type of gate-crasher is to stay vigilante. Favorite Line: Silence.

Another tip: go with your gut. If someone looks shifty or nervous, or they can't look you straight in the eye, they're probably not who they say they are.

If you're hesitant to simply rely on your gut, a digital guest list app is the best way to keep your event secure. The app syncs across all devices, so the list of names is up-to-date on all tablets and smartphones. With a digital guest list, planners can also add pictures of their guests directly sourced from the Internet, adding further protection against identity thieves.

Uninvited guests, beware: event crashing just got a whole lot harder.
