It was a party to show off Escada’s spring and summer 2006 collection—and a flock of live models did just that—but the event was as much of a coming-out party for its host venue, Lotus Space, just opened in Chelsea by Luis Collazo of floral design firm Lotus. Escada’s Carrie Niese and Cynthia Frednicki worked with Collazo to create the party’s look.
A gate made from a trellis of roses and dahlias flanked the entrance. As guests came inside from the rain, the candles dangling from the structure swayed delicately—until the wind extinguished them (luckily, Collazo was on hand with a lighter). Flats of green grass sat on the hardwood floor at the base of the white pillars in the venue.
Caterer Creative Edge Parties warmed up the damp crowd with comfort food like mushroom tarts, potato latkes, and a vegetarian take on meatballs (they were made with eggplant). Green tea martinis played on a tea trend we’ve been noticing—and their color complemented the rest of the foliage and the green uplighting throughout.
