Boston has always been a tough city, and in 2013 locals banded together as never before when the beloved annual Boston Marathon was attacked by suspected terrorists. After the tragic bombings, the city united at several events for the One Fund, benefiting marathon victims and their families. The city’s resiliency was never more apparent. In the aftermath, the city carried on, stoic as ever, with annual marquee events.

From established affairs like the Hasty Pudding Awards and the Boston Flower and Garden Show to newcomers like NVRQT Night With Jon & Farrah Lester and the Island Creek Oyster Foundation Friends for Haiti, here are our picks for the events that annually draw the biggest buzz, crowds, media and donor attention, and important players in their respective fields.

To choose and rank the annual events on this list, we look at several factors, including economic impact, buzz, innovation, and an event's prominence within the communities it intends to serve.
