3-D Mapping, Playful Catering at Capital C's Chalet-Inspired Holiday Party

Carla Warrilow
December 15, 2011

Marketing company Capital C hosted 300 employees and clients at its annual Christmas party on Friday night. Mary Pallattella, creative director of live events, transforms the brick-walled office building every year and this year created ski chalet-inspired decor. "The theme began as Naughty and Nice until we bumped up the 'ice' for the Naughty N'Ice Party," Pallattella said.

Guests received a video invitation from Reiner Von Deer, a fictitious Russian millionaire referred to as "the most uninteresting man on earth, bon vivant and party animal." Von Deer, played by Milan Sukunda, associate creative director at Capital C, greeted and joked with guests. The decor and menu items were inspired by Von Deer's party lifestyle.

To transform the office building, Pallattella designed decals in-house and covered the walls with snowy scenes and festive details like Christmas lights, skis, and holiday wreaths. The office light fixtures were covered with shades, patterned with a stitched sweater motif. On covered windows, Apex projected a 3-D mapping of snow falling on trees. There were four spaces within the party, and each was lit and decorated to create different environments.

Drinks, created by the Martini Club International, matched the naughty theme with names like Cinful, Dirty Russian, and Naughty N’ Ice, which was poured over dry ice. C2 Catering Couture created hors d’oeuvres like cheesecake, served in lipstick-style tubes, black cod burgers on glitter buns, and winter melon soup topped with nitrogen-frozen blueberries.

The party began at 7 p.m., and while it officially ended at 2:30 a.m., guests mingled until 4:30 a.m.

One space channeled a taxi-dance hall, which was a type of nightclub that had 'dime-a-dance' entertainers in the 1920s. Guests of the era could pay 10 cents to dance with a girl for 90 seconds, so Pallattella hired models to wear period costumes and dance with employees. The dance hall also had big, black-and-white photos of women from the 1920s.
