This Week: Festivals Begin Across the State

The fourth annual Cabaret Festival begins today at the Mad Cow Theatre in Orlando. It features more than 40 performances from pop and jazz to modern and contemporary and classical. It runs until Sunday…The Ron Jon Surf Shop's 42 annual Easter Surf Festival also begins today until Sunday at Sheppard Park and the Cocoa Beach Pier…The Wanee Festival begins Friday through Sunday at the Suwanee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida. The Allman Brothers Band is scheduled to headline…The Mandarin Arts Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday at the Walter Jones Historical Park in Jacksonville. The festival will benefit the Mandarin Community Club…Also on Saturday is the ninth annual Strawberry Classic Car Show in Plant City. The show will have hundreds of cars and trucks manufactured in 1981 and in and around McCall Park. Vendors and crafters will have the latest in hot rod and automotive accessories. Other highlights include performances by the Dukes and demonstrations by the Plant City Police Department and Fire Rescue.

Wednesday, April 19: The Worth Avenue Association kicks off Fiesta on Worth Avenue, a celebration of Latin fashions and cuisine, with Viva Fiesta, a cocktail reception at the Colony Hotel. The actual event takes place on Saturday, April 22, and will include Latin-inspired cuisine, entertainment such as a Carmen Miranda look-alike contest and cigar rollers. Worth Avenue retailers are donating products for the live auction. Proceeds will benefit the New Hope Charities… Also today is the 21st annual Taste of Winter Park event. Held at the Winter Park Farmer's Market, attendees can enjoy cuisine from the area's restaurants…Thursday, April 20: The 24th annual Suncoast Boat Show begins and runs until Sunday at Ken Thompson Park in Sarasota. It will feature hundreds of boats plus a full range of marine products and accessories. There will be live music on the floating cocktail barge and free fishing clinics…Also tonight is the Jam at MAM at the Miami Art Museum featuring music by local DJs and a Starbucks coffee bar…The Central Florida Fair begins today at the Central Florida Fairgrounds…Friday, April 21: The Miami Children's Hospital Foundation is hosting a night of dining, dancing, and smooth jazz at the Coral Gables Country Club with entertainment by renowned musician Marty Henne… The eighth annual Gay & Lesbian Film Festival begins today as well and runs until April 30. Screenings will be held in four locations: the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts, the Colony Theatre and Regal Cinemas in South Beach, and Sunrise Cinemas at Gateway in Fort Lauderdale. The opening night gala is being hosted at the soon-to-open Karu & Y with cuisine from its executive chef Alberto Cabrera… The Cocoa Beach Jazz Festival begins today as well and runs until Sunday. Performances will be held at Heidi's Jazz Club and the Doubletree Hotel Cocoa Beach Oceanfront… Saturday, April 22: Deliver the Dream is hosting Jeans and Dreams, a benefit at the Sawgrass Marriott Resort & Spa…Wednesday, April 26: The International Special Events Society is hosting a membership drive at the John U. Lloyd State Park in Dania Beach. The Lost-themed drive will feature live entertainment, complimentary food, and cash bar…Thursday, April 27: The TECO Plaza Atrium in downtown Tampa is hosting the fifth annual Taste of Hope fund-raiser to benefit Everyday Blessings. It will feature a wine tasting and silent auction…
