New York's floral design elite showed off some incredibly beautiful and creative displays at the Horticultural Society of New York's Flowers & Design: New York in Bloom, Celebrating Our Roots benefit in the atrium of 590 Madison Avenue and the Sony Plaza Atrium. The fund-raiser, which invited 46 event, floral and interior designers to create a banquet table or floral display--akin to Diffa's annual Dining by Design event--featured works ranging from an upside flower garden from David Beahm and a tropical birds' nest with live finches from Marc Blackwell to more traditional, flowery pieces from DeJuan Stroud and Belle Fleur. The event was organized by the society's special events director Cathy Knowles.

Magnolia Flowers & Events' table featured one large pastel colored centerpiece, with smaller matching bouquets at each place setting.

DeJuan Stroud decorated his table with a small hut accented with suspended candle holders and a rich, autumnal-colored centerpiece with roses, tulips and peonies.

David Beahm's whimsical table display for House & Garden magazine was an upside-down garden of tulips and daffodils, complete with roots reaching for the ceiling. Beahm put a Plexiglas overlay on the table with branches splaying underneath, and each place setting included an individual mini-arrangements.

Belle Fleur used a green and white theme with a large arrangement atop a white pedestal and more flowers and some fruit scattered at the base. Each place setting featured a cricket made of bamboo.
