The Patrons Executive Committee of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) brought back shoulder pads, big hair, and neon tights for Pop Love—An 80's Extravaganza, a fund-raiser with a retro twist.
Munisha Underhill, the museum's special events manager, worked with Le Basque Catering & Productions and RBK Productions to convert MOCA's Paradise Art Court into a club lounge inspired by the over-the-top decadence of the 80's. White couches dotted the courtyard, and cocktail tables were topped with outrageous centerpieces—neon foam mannequin heads sprouting dreadlocks made of flowers and foliage from Petal Affair.
Guests were encouraged to dress to the theme, and many did—pearls, lace gloves, Mohawks, and Miami Vice attire prevailed. BAWLS Guarana, one of the sponsors, dressed its bar staff as icons of the era, including Joan Jett, Madonna, and Michael Jackson. Allied Domecq, Bacardi, and Champagne Pommery also set up bars for the evening.
An excess of food and beverage awaited guests. Dishes ranged from smoked salmon appetizers and paella to mini cupcakes and cappuccino. DJ Hottpants spun classic hits from Prince to George Michael, giving the professional dancers from Katie Stirman Productions inspiration to boogie. Dressed in neon outfits and covered in body paint, the dancers mingled with partygoers and got them dancing too.
At the end of the night, guests took home gift bags with products donated by Bacardi, Clarins, Laura Mercier, and Neiman Marcus.

Deadly Venom performed break-dancing moves, because no 80's theme party would be complete without them.

Servers from BAWLS Guarana dressed as 80's icons like Joan Jett and Michael Jackson.
